This is possible because RO-RO ships have special built in ramps that allow for fast and efficient storage on a vessel when in port—cargo is simply rolled on and off the ship.
1. What is a RO-RO Ship?
The RO-RO Ship is a cargo vessel designed to carry wheeled cargo such as automobiles, semi-trucks, railroad cars, large cargo, etc. and can be driven on and off the ships with their own wheels or on other transportation devices.
RO-RO Ships have ramp 30-40 meters long and 4-5 meter wide hatchways. The RO-RO Ship uses both flexible and fixed ramps, and have multi deck ship connected with ramps or large elevators. The RO-RO Ship makes it convenient to load and store each cargo unit
